Love is a VERB.
This statement is something that has been stuck in my mind for days. I have thought about... and thought about it... and thought about it some more. I have started a new devotional. One of the first things that it said in the introduction was that "Love is a decision, not just a feeling". After I read those words I considered this for a while. Then I thought about how we use the word love in our language. We say things like I love you or He really loves her. When we use it in this way we are saying that it is an action. Something that is communicated from one person to another. Love is a journey. The desire outcome is that we show love to one another even when we don't feel like it .
When we think of love we think of our heart, but the funny thing is that Jeremiah 17:9 tells us "the heart is more deceitful than anything else". Maybe we should think of love as something that we do with our head by choice and not just something that we do because it feels right at the moment.
I could say so many more things but right now I will leave you with this something I learned about Saturday. Love is life's motivator. "For Christ's love compels us..." 2 Corinthians 5:14
Paul endured beatings, persecution and hardships throughout his life. He did it because of Love. "Christ's love compelled him..."
Thank you Jesus for your loving Spirit that is in us. Let Your love flow from us each and everyday to all of the people we meet. I pray that you would give them hope, love and happiness just by coming in contact with us because you are flowing from us. I than you for everything that you are doing in me and I pray that You continue to work in me showing real love and making me a more loving person. I want love to be my default, my automatic response. I want love to always be on my lips so that i would be an encouragement to my family. Thank you Lord for your strength because without you I would be nothing. I am truly blessed and grateful for all that you are showing me. I love you and praise you. In Your Holy Son Jesus' name, Amen.
i know I said I was going to end this earlier but I got carried away in a moment. I will not apologize because it was a great experience. I will leave you now with the words to the chorus of one of my favorite songs, Warren Barfield's Love is not a Fight.
"Love is a shelter in a raging storm. love is a peace, in the middle of a war. And if we try to leave, may God send angels guard the door. No, love is not a fight, its something worth fighting for..."
Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI think out of everything that I have read so far this is the most powerful, you have chosen the message that God is teaching us throughout His word from beginning to end without love everything we do is in vain and can accomplish nothing. I thank- you and I thank God for speaking through you to me I needed this simple but powerful word as I have let myself become some what confused with all the thoughts I have been trying to process in my mind but this is clear and sure what you are saying. If we by choice walk in love in every situation we cant fail and we will be living as children of God. All creation wants to be loved. So I am with you. Lord make me a more loving person in the name of Jesus I pray.
I love you Rachel
Daddy
All creation really does want to be loved not just people but also animals and they say if you talk to plants they grow better so I guess they want to be loved too.
ReplyDeleteEverything and everybody suffers when love is lacking. You've heard the song "Looking for love in all the wrong places"..that's what is happening in our world. The one thing that everyone needs more than anything else and it's like nobody knows how to find it.
Your right Rachel love is not a feeling..thinking it is a feeling is what makes us so unstable because we base love on how we feel or how we are made to feel. Our heart can be very deceptive in this to the point of insecurity and confusion. Roller coaster ride..this is where feelings keep us. I think I own that ride!!
We have to base everything on the Word of God and it is all based on Love, so whether we feel loved or feel like loving..we on purpose out of obedience to the Word, walk in Love.
Love is a choice..we choose Love because Love first chose us. God is Love (1John4:8&16).
This is one of those know that I know that I know things. We have to know the Word and rest in the truth of the Word. We are loved..we have The Spirit of Love living inside us. This will produce feelings but whether the feelings are there or not, it doesn't change the fact that Love is....
I do pray for such an intimate knowing of Love for all of us where the power of it flows through us like a rushing river and covers everything and everyone in it's path.
Love is a verb..it's an ever present, moving, touching, all consuming fire that is cleansing and purifying us into completion. I just looked up completion: a making or being completed, full, perfect.
I love you
Connie
These are precious words. This love we all talk about is a perfect love, an unconditional love. There is no doubt this love is TRUTH. Its power can never be broken. Its strength doesn't depend on ours to work. I agree that our emotions doesn't control it. This love, is God's love. The scripture describes this love in I Corinthians chapter 13. This chapter puts and describes love exactly and precisely.
ReplyDeleteWe can see the greatness of this love, when we hear the words, we are saved by grace. Our security totally lies in this love. I also agree that the world desperately is seeking and needs to experience this working love of our Father. We can sink all our trust in it as if it were concrete. I, along with all of you, praise God for His unyielding truth of His love.
Thank you Rachel for drawing our attention to our Father's love. May God continue to move us deeper in a relationship that consist of His love.
